In January of 2006 the government of Ontario made Bill 124 into law requiring Design Firms that were submitting plans for Building Permit to have met certain requirements as outlined by this Bill. When these requirements were met a firm was issued a Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) from the Ministry.
The purpose of this Bill is to ensure that all firms providing design services
to the public have sufficient knowledge of the Building Code and carry sufficient
insurance, protecting the public from less reputable designers.
